This module provides useful knowledge to CCS experts and MH professionals to understand the differences between the specific needs of young neurodivergent artists (e.g., with autism, learning disorders such as dyslexia) and/or with intellectual disability (e.g., due to congenital syndromes such as Down syndrome). It builds on rights-based and neurodiversity-affirming approaches and aims to translate them into concrete facilitation choices.

By the end of the module, participants will be able to:

  • Adapt facilitation approaches with greater self-awareness and flexibility so that activities can match diverse artistic, cognitive, and sensory needs.
  • Strengthen collaboration, empathy and cultural awareness when working in inclusive artistic environments, especially in mixed-ability groups.
  • Enhance creative, technical, and communicative abilities for supporting self-expression and co-creation in groups that include young artists with intellectual disability (ID) and/or neurodivergent.
  • Apply professional ethics, lifelong learning, and well-being principles in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and relevant EU instruments (e.g., the EU Accessibility Act, the Union of Equality: Disability Rights Strategy 2021–2030).
